Activities on Maui in May 2019
There are plenty of activities on Maui in May. Spring is a wonderful time to visit Maui. The snowbirds have come and gone and the busy summer season hasn’t started yet. There are typically great deals on all the favorite tours. Our featured activity idea for May is a helicopter tour! This is a great way to see our island! The Maui Arts & Cultural Center
In April, the Maui Arts & Cultural Center has a full slate of activities on Maui. There are twelve different events scheduled this month. The list below features some of the highlights. Visit the Maui Arts & Cultural Center website for show-times and additional information.
May 1stthrough 5th
Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 7:30pm– Join Michael Franti and his band Spearhead in a fantastic evening of uplifting music. Michael is recognized as a pioneering force in the music industry. His music has found global success with multiple multiplatinum songs. Tickets range from $29.50-$49.50.
Friday, May 3, 2019 at 7:30pm – The MACC’s Ho’onanea series continues with the annual tradition of a Maui Lei Day concert featuring contemporary Hawaiian music and hula by Robert Cazimero. Tickets range from $12-$65.00.
April 8th through 15th
Saturday and Sunday, May 4-5, 2019 (4 shows) – This is MAPA’s annual recital featuring dancers of all ages. These dancers will be performing hip hop, jazz, ballet and contemporary dance. Please go online for show times. Tickets range from $17-$22.00.
May 6th through 12th
Saturday, May 11, 2019at 7:30pm – Artist 2 Artist with Henry Kapono: The next Generation: Well-known artist, Henry Kapono teams up with other well established artists along with up and coming music artists. This collaboration will feature many of the timeless classics from Henry’s career. Tickets range from $35-$125.00.
Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 7:30pm – In this final concert in the Artist to Artist series this season Henry Kapono and Amy Hanaiali’I play music, talk-story, and have fun! Henry is a well-known audience favorite. Amy Hanaiali’I remains Hawaiis top selling female vocalist of all time. This should be a very special evening. Tickets range from $35-$65.00.
May 13ththrough 31st
Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 3:30-7:00pm – Meet for the 11thAnnual Maui Brewers Festival at the A& B Amphitheater. This event features tasty food from local restaurants and caterers at no additional charge. Naturally there is beer tastings from local and national craft breweries along with live music featuring Riddum Station and Flat Jackson.
Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 7:30pm – This is a special evening featuring the music of Andy McKee. One of the worlds finest acoustic guitarists, Andy’s music ranges from folk, blues, bluegrass and other musical genres. Tickets range from $38-$55.00.

Additional Activities
Outdoor Activity: Jacaranda Trees in bloom
Every April Maui bursts into color as the Upcountry Jacaranda trees go into full bloom. These wonderful trees were introduced to the Hawaiian island in the late 1800’s. These trees can be found along the Kula Highway through Makawao and Pukalani. Be sure to bring your camera!
Lavender Fields in bloom
Enjoy beautiful Upcountry views surrounded by 55,000 lavender plants. You can enjoy this experience at the Ali’I Kula Lavender Farm.

Friday
Maalaea Surf Resort Donut Friday
Let’s start Friday of right! If you’re a new Maalaea Surf Resort Guest, or even if you’re not, you are invited to Donut Friday! This Maalaea Surf favorite runs Friday from 8-9:30 a.m. out around the big pool! Grab your favorite donut and a cup of coffee and meet our other owners and guests. It is a great chance to chat up our property manager Malea as well!
Town Party
You like to party, right?! On Maui, if it’s Friday, there is a party somewhere! Every Friday, there’s a town party sponsored by Maui County. The party rotates to a different town each Friday evening. These events are great fun for both visitors and residents alike. They feature local food, entertainment, live music and shopping from local vendors.
First Friday – Wailuku Town Party (Central Maui)
Second Friday – Lahaina Town Party (West Maui)
Third Friday – Makawao Town Party (Upcountry)
Fourth Friday – Kihei Town Party (South Maui)

Paradise Speedway Maui
On nearly every first Saturday of the month Paradise Speedway holds car races on Maui. The racing starts at sundown and features seven different classes of racing. Some of the classes include youth class, 4-cylinder bomber class, 4 cylinder modified/truck class, street stock class, super street class and more. Looking for something different to do on Maui? I would definitely check this event out! They should be running on April 6th.
Maui Swap Meet
On Saturday you might enjoy checking out the Maui Swap Meet located in Kahului at the University of Hawaii, Maui College. It is free, and has over 200 vendors. This activity features handmade island crafts, jewelry, artwork and much more.

May Weather on Maui
The island of Maui is made up of a number of different sub-climates. Depending on where you are the weather can be very different. Each area has its own general weather pattern. The Maalaea Surf Resort is located in the central valley of Maui surrounded on either side by huge mountainous regions. The valley is usually sunny.
Temperatures range from the mid 60’s in the evenings to the mid-80’s during the day. The ocean temperature is a very comfortable 79-80 degrees. If you are planning a trip to the Haleakala Crater be sure to bring layers of warmer clothing as at 10,000 feet the summit temperatures can drop below freezing.
At the Maalaea Surf Resort our average daytime high in April is 83 degrees with a low at night of 61 degrees. We typically have 3 days of rain.
